Visiting Yachts to Shetland
Lerwick is a popular destination for yachts during the summer months, with visitors arriving from all over Europe, America and beyond. Around 500 yachts visited Lerwick in 2009, which made for a very colourful and lively waterfront. Many of the crews took the opportunity to explore Shetland's 900 miles of coastline. In addition long-established events, such as the Shetland-Bergen race, Dutch Triangle race and Round Britain and Ireland race, bring old friends and new faces.
On arrival in Lerwick you should contact Lerwick Port Authority, to enquire about your harbour dues. You can also obtain a key for the club (subject to a £5 deposit) from them. The key provides you with access to the Club. If no keys are available at the Lerwick Port Authority Harbour Office, please call along the Clubhouse during bar opening times, where we will issue you with a key. For an information pack with maps showing the location of both the Port Authority and the Boating Club see www.lerwick-harbour.co.uk/pdfs/yachtpack.pdf.
Shower/Washing Facilities
There are 3 male and 1 female showers available for visiting yachtspersons, which are located in the newly refurbished basement. The showers are operated by coin meters - £1 will give you a 10 minute shower. There are shaver points available, comfortable seated changing areas and a hair dryer in the female toilets.
There are also 2 industrial sized washing machines and 2 dryers available for use in the laundry room. Both the washing machines and dryers are operated by coin meters - £2 for washing and you can use either £1 coins or 20p pieces. The dryers also take £1 coins. £2 will allow you to dry a load of washing. During normal club opening hours, change can be obtained from the bar area.
